Even those who are not so verse in ballet are familiar with the name Rudolf Nureyev. In The White Crow, Ralph Fiennes (who is also plays his teacher Pushkin in the movie) directs dancer Oleg Ivenko as the title character, taking the audience on a journey of the life of the famed ballet star. Nureyev’s defection from the Soviet Union to the West during the height of the Cold War was international news as he escaped capture by the KGB. He went on to dance with Royal Ballet, become Artistic Director of Paris Opera Ballet, and to make his everlasting mark on the history of ballet.
