The Boston Opera House

The Boston Opera House (also known as the Citizens Bank Opera House) is located in Boston, MA. It was originally built as a vaudeville and film theatre in memory of Benjamin Franklin Keith (an impresario in the field), thus the naming of it after him – B. F. Keith’s Boston Theatre. After several rounds of dynamic identity crises – from vaudeville and film, to just vaudeville, a return to films, and the addition of opera – the Boston Opera House now features concerts, Broadway productions, and is home of the Boston Ballet.

★ INTERESTING FACT

The Boston Opera House was placed on the Nation Trust for Historic Preservation’s 11 Most Endangered Buildings List in 1995 for the amount of deterioration it had suffered over the decades. An enormous financial, construction, and artistic effort was made to restore the theatre back to its originally luxurious glory and it was re-opened in 2004.
